It lies three kilometres west of Kathmandu city and is situated on a hillock 77m above the level of the valley. This hill is a mosaic of several small chaityas and pagoda temples. A walk down the city\u2019s Durbar square is certainly a rewarding experience. One can visit the beautiful ancient places, temples and shrines all exquisitely carved, and several shops selling treasures that patan is famous for its exotic, traditional handicrafts. One of the major attractions of patan Durbar square is the ancient royal palace that consists of three main curtyards-sundari chowk holds in its centre a masterpiece of stone architecture, the royal bath called Tushahity.<\/p>

PATAN the city of fine arts<\/b><\/p>

The city of patan, lying towards the 5km Southeast of kathmandu, is known as the city of fine arts and across the Bagmati river is town believed to be covered with a thousand golden roofs. The statue of king Malla in the act of worship is placed on a column facing the palace. Of the many statues seen in Nepal this is considered to be the most magnificent. The Golden Gate is the entrance to the main courtyard of the palace of 55 windows. It is one of the most beautiful and richly carved specimens of its kind of the entire world.
